Note from the ED
Happy 2026!
As GLP turns 20, we are launching something that has been a long time in the making: a new website (glp.earth), a new interactive member space (GLP Hub), and a new logo!
Our previous website served us faithfully for nearly ten years, which in internet years is heroic. It weathered countless updates, thousands of posts, and more malware attacks than we care to remember. We are grateful for its long and honorable service. But it was time.
GLP is no longer a small coordination effort sharing occasional updates. We are a global network of more than 3,000 researchers. Our work increasingly depends on collaboration across regions, disciplines, and working groups, guided by our Scientific Steering Committee, and spanning generations from early-career researchers to long-standing leaders in the field. Much of the value of GLP now comes from how you connect with one another, not just from what we, at the IPO, post. A static website was no longer enough.
So we’ve built something different. The new glp.earth is outward-facing — a clear, accessible window into who we are and why land system science matters. GLP Hub is where the community lives — where you can connect, collaborate, and lead from within.
This shift continues a commitment we made years ago to “flatten the network” by creating more space for members to initiate, shape, and carry forward GLP’s work.
Read on to learn more about GLP Hub, how to sign in, what you can do there, and how it connects to glp.earth (hint: Find a Scientist is a great tool for people to find you, with GLP Hub you can find each other on the map!!). You’ll also find a short note on the thinking behind our new logo.
I also want to thank the IPO team, who have worked incredibly hard over the past year to bring this to life. We’re fortunate for the care and commitment they bring daily to GLP.
We know transitions take a little adjustment, but we’re excited about what this makes possible, and we hope you’ll activate your Hub account very soon and help us build this next chapter together.
Warmly,
Ariane de Bremond, Executive Director, GLP IPO
De Bremond is also an associate research professor in the Department of Geographical Sciences.
