Catherine Nakalembe Featured in TED Fellows Film Series
Nakalembe spotlights how satellite data empowers farmers and strengthens food security across the African continent.
The newest season of the TED Fellows Film Series features Catherine Nakalembe, assistant professor in the Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland and Africa program director for NASA Harvest.
Nakalembe’s film, released Friday, Oct. 24, showcases her work using satellite imagery to help smallholder farmers across Africa prepare for floods, droughts and crop failures. Nakalembe highlights that true innovation isn’t always about new technology, but about adapting existing tools to address the real problems they are meant to solve.
