Assistant Professor Catherine Nakalembe Featured in Podcast on AI, Weather Forecasting
Nakalembe discusses the promise and limitations of AI-powered forecasting and the need to turn better predictions into meaningful action.
Assistant Professor Catherine Nakalembe is featured in a recent episode of Solve for X: Innovations to Change the World, a podcast from MaRS, exploring how AI is reshaping weather forecasting and helping communities prepare for a changing climate.
In the episode, Nakalembe draws on her work using satellite imagery, machine learning and other geospatial technologies to monitor drought, flooding and other climate hazards across Sub-Saharan Africa. She discusses both the extraordinary advances these technologies have made possible and a critical limitation: better predictions do not automatically translate into better outcomes for the people facing climate disasters.
