Bio
Shipu Debnath is a Ph.D. student in Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland. He previously earned an M.S. in Geography and Environment from Texas Tech University and a Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh.
His research interests focus on the integration of remote sensing, satellite data, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), GeoAI, and big data analytics to understand climate change impacts and human–environment interactions. Shipu uses advanced geospatial technologies and computational approaches to examine environmental change, climate vulnerability, and community resilience.
His work involves analyzing large-scale satellite-derived datasets, geospatial big data, spatial statistics, and machine learning techniques to identify patterns of climate risks and develop data-driven approaches for climate adaptation. By combining remote sensing observations with GIS and artificial intelligence, he aims to improve the understanding of complex environmental processes and support sustainable decision-making.
With a background in urban and regional planning and geospatial science, Shipu is interested in applying innovative geospatial methods to address challenges related to climate change, environmental sustainability, and resilient communities. His research explores the potential of GeoAI and emerging geospatial data science approaches to transform how we monitor, analyze, and respond to global environmental challenges.
