Geography Environment Systems and Natural Resources Track
Environment Systems and Natural Resources
The department carries out a broad array of research focused on monitoring vegetation dynamics, with a particular focus on mapping and studying human and natural disturbances and their landscape-scale impacts, as well as changes to the earth's surface as a result of climate variability. Alterations to the global carbon cycle are changing atmospheric composition and climate with implications for human well-being and a particular focus of our coursework centers on understanding monitoring and modeling physical and biological systems. Students will be introduced to the latest geographic science concepts and techniques in exploring environmental systems and will learn to simultaneously address social, economic, carbon, climate, biodiversity and their impact on other aspects of land-use changes. Special emphasis is placed on agricultural monitoring systems and societal impacts, adaptions and vulnerability to catastrophic events, and sustainabilty of physical systems.
