Haynes, Keelin

Bio

Keelin Haynes is the Communications Lead for NASA Harvest, where he leads public engagement and digital strategy for a global consortium advancing agricultural decision-making through satellite data. He works closely with scientists to communicate Earth observation research, develops digital communication strategies, manages the consortium's public-facing platforms, and supports the dissemination of research for policymakers, partners, and the broader public.

With a background in political geography and remote sensing, Keelin has contributed to a wide range of applied research, including scenario-based land-use modeling in Vietnam, Arctic wildfire analysis in Greenland, and fire data interpretation for the NOAA/NASA FIREX-AQ campaign. He earned his M.A. in Geography from Miami University (Ohio), where his thesis combined satellite imagery with field observations, stakeholder interviews, and open-source research to examine how economic, cultural, and policy factors influence agricultural change in Vietnam's Mekong Delta.

His work spans agricultural monitoring, food security, and land-use change, with a particular interest in combining satellite observations, field knowledge, and other sources of evidence to better understand complex geographic problems. He has also mentored students in research labs and classrooms.

He is particularly interested in how geospatial analysis and clear communication can improve decision-making in agriculture, food security, and environmental management.
