Congratulations to the joint research team from the University of Maryland (UMD) Department of Geographical Sciences and Lund University (LU, Sweden) Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem science on winning a Joint Research Workshop grant for the proposal "National- to -Continental Forest Change and Crop Extent Monitoring Using Satellite Data Mass-Processing and Big Data Analysis"!

The grant will support two exchange workshops, one hosted at UMD, and one - at LU. Workshops will be be focused on exchanging research experience in large area land monitoring between the UMD and LU teams, and discussing potential joint research projects. From the UMD side, the Global Land Analysis and Discovery team (GLAD, http://glad.umd.edu/) is involved in this collaboration. From the LU side, two research groups are involved, namely, The Lund Earth Observation group (LEO, http://www.nateko.lu.se/research/remote-sensing-and-earth-observation/lund-earth-observation-research-group), and the Biogeophysics and climatology research group.

Primary Investigators of the awarded grant are Dr. Peter Potapov (UMD), Dr. Matthew Hansen (UMD), Dr. Lars Eklundh (LU), Dr. Janne Rinne (LU), Dr. Jonas Ardö (LU) and Dr. Mikhail Masterpanov (LU).
