Join us on Giving Day 2025—make a difference for GEOG on Wednesday, March 5!

This Maryland Giving Day, the Department of Geographical Sciences invites you to make a meaningful impact by supporting two vital funds—one providing immediate relief and the other investing in the future

🔹 GEOG General Fund: Emergency Relief – A critical buffer providing urgent assistance to faculty, researchers and students affected by potential budget cuts and funding gaps.

🔹 Young Researchers Fund: High School Programs – An initiative dedicated to inspiring the next generation of geographers.

Here’s more about each fund:

GEOG General Fund: Emergency Relief

In these unprecedented times, the Department of Geographical Sciences is seeking your support for the GEOG General Fund: Emergency Relief. This fund will act as a critical buffer to assist the most vulnerable members of our community.

The Emergency Relief Fund will aid those facing urgent needs, including assistance covering essential research expenses and easing financial strain caused by funding gaps.

Your gift will help important projects continue, careers stay on track, and our community remains strong in the face of new challenges.

Every effort counts—now is the time to act and make a difference.

Make a gift to the Emergency Relief

Young Researchers Fund: High School Programs

Invest in the next generation of researchers tackling global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, and food insecurity.

The Department of Geographical Sciences offers high school programs to inspire students and deepen their understanding of critical Earth issues. Through engaging activities, we introduce them to the diverse field of geographical sciences.

Your gift to the High School Hub will help us:

  • Reach out to public schools to identify standout students in geographical sciences
  • Host engaging activities at our department
  • Offer paid internships for students pursuing university-level research

Make a gift to the Young Researchers Fund

Whether you’re helping our researchers persevere or empowering young minds, your generosity makes a difference. Thank you!
