  • See What GEOG Scholars Will Present At AGU 2025
AGU25 conference in New Orleans, Lousiana

Your guide to GEOG presentations at the premier Earth and space sciences conference.

This year, 43 GEOG faculty, staff and students are participating in the 2025 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Annual Fall Meeting Dec. 15 to 19  in New Orleans, Louisiana.

GEOG members are first authors in a total of 56 presentations this year. The presentations include oral talk and poster sessions, covering a wide array of topics, from satellite-based crop and drought monitoring to forest carbon and ecosystem modeling, climate and hazard impacts, food security and agricultural innovation, land use and land cover change, public health applications and more.

Eight sessions are organized by GEOG researchers. A few highlights include:

  • “Advancements in Wildland Fire Science, Management, and Engagement: Integrating Earth Observation Technologies and Collaborative Development,” organized by Assistant Research Professor Joanne Hall
  • “Applications of Climate Science in a Nonstationary Climate,” organized by Postdoctoral Associate Michael Cecil
  • “Advancements in Earth Science Data Access and Visualization Through Emerging Technologies,” organized by Ph.D. student Walid Ouaret

GEOG students continue to make their mark with more than 18 first-author presentations this year. AGU provides geography students with a unique opportunity to learn about the latest research on Earth and the environment, connect with seasoned experts and present their own research in a professional setting. Some examples of student-led presentations in 2025 include:

  • “Damage Assessment Across Scales and Systems: Environmental and Societal Impacts of Conflict and Disaster,” by Ph.D. student Abena Boatemaa Asare-Ansah
  • “Water, Agriculture, and Conservation: Sustaining Agricultural Production and Healthy Watersheds,” by BS/MS student Kyle Pumphrey
  • “Carbon Monitoring Research and Applications,” by Shuo Xu
  • “Advances in Machine Learning for Earth Science: Observation, Modeling, and Applications,” by Ph.D student Zhen Liu
