Quick Chat With Kristen Halliday
For over a decade, Kristen Halliday. assistant director of the Master of Sciences Programs, has contributed to the growth and success of both undergraduate and graduate programs at the Department of Geographical Sciences.
A lifelong Marylander, Kristen grew up in Waldorf and Great Mills and stayed close to home for her education, earning both a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology and an M.A. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Maryland.
You have been with GEOG for 11 years. How did your work evolve?
I was initially 50/50 working for the Undergrad advising office and M.S. (then MPS) program doing admin and student services. I was able to move full-time to the Masters as they grew.
How would you explain your role in one sentence?
As part of the M.S. programs team, I manage graduate administration, marketing and student services for the M.S. in GIS and GEOINT programs.
What do you like most about your role?
I resonate with the students who join our programs. They want to advance in their careers while still maintaining full time jobs and family lives. l like helping them find that balance by facilitating their graduate school journey.
What’s a pet peeve you have at work?
Inefficiencies that slow down processes.
What do you do to help you recharge?
Gym, parks, breweries, decorating and cooking with my family.
