Kristen Haliday

For over a decade, Kristen Halliday. assistant director of the Master of Sciences Programs, has contributed to the growth and success of both undergraduate and graduate programs at the Department of Geographical Sciences.

A lifelong Marylander, Kristen grew up in Waldorf and Great Mills and stayed close to home for her education, earning both a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology and an M.A. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Maryland.

You have been with GEOG for 11 years. How did your work evolve?

I was initially 50/50 working for the Undergrad advising office and M.S. (then MPS) program doing admin and student services.  I was able to move full-time to the Masters as they grew.

How would you explain your role in one sentence?

As part of the M.S. programs team, I manage graduate administration, marketing and student services for the M.S. in GIS and GEOINT programs.

What do you like most about your role?

I resonate with the students who join our programs. They want to advance in their careers while still maintaining full time jobs and family lives. l like helping them find that balance by facilitating their graduate school journey.

What’s a pet peeve you have at work?

Inefficiencies that slow down processes.

What do you do to help you recharge?

Gym, parks, breweries, decorating and cooking with my family.

Anything else you would like people to know about you.

I'm a new MOM!
