Prashnani, Meghavi
Bio
Meghavi is a Senior Faculty Specialist in the Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland. Previously, she worked as a Remote Sensing and GIS Expert at the Mahalanobis National Crop Forecast Centre, New Delhi, where she focused on agriculture monitoring, drought assessment, and crop insurance using a combination of microwave and optical satellite data and in-situ data.
She served as a Scientist at the North Eastern Space Application Centre under the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), where she worked on different projects of disaster risk reduction, specifically agriculture damages. At ISRO, she utilized high-resolution unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) imageries for precision farming and disaster mitigation. She also developed the Google Earth Engine code for time series analysis of river islands, national parks, and river dynamics studies.
She has also worked at the Center for Artificial Intelligence & Robotics, Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Bengaluru, India, where her research was focused on the study of different classification and dimension reduction techniques for classification of Hyperspectral Imageries. Throughout her career, she has traveled extensively for studies and fieldwork. She is passionate about traveling and exploring new places, as she believes that it helps to stimulate creative thoughts, provides practical education, and broadens horizons.
