Bio

Adrián Pascual got his PhD in 2018 from the University of Eastern Finland (UEF, Joensuu, Finland) after completing his Forest Engineering education (Bch in 2010 and MSc in 2012) at the University of Valladolid (Spain). His current position is Assistant Research Professor at the University of Maryland (College Park UMD) at the Department of Geographical Sciences in partnership with NASA GEDI Science Mission. Since 2022 he is supporting the mission on calibration, modeling and development of decision-making applications using NASA GEDI data. His postdoctoral experiences include a short-time postdoc at UEF, one year at the Institute of Agronomy (University of Lisbon) and another year at the Center for Global Discovery and Conservation Science (Arizona State University at the Hawaii Research Extension working with Professor Gregory Asner and in partnership with the USDA Forest Service - Pacific Island Forestry Center. He has published 40 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals, 26 as first author, in topics such as forest carbon monitoring, laser and image data processing and forest modeling, stand & tree harvest-scheduling models using heuristics and mathematical programming. He has co-authored four global products using GEDI data and others. The goal of his research is to make remote sensing data products actionable and operational for decision-making. He is currently Associate Editor of Forest Policy and Economics, NASA GEDI and FireSense Science Team Member, co-PI in the Carbon Monitoring System project "Pantropical structure and biomass mapping using the fusion of GEDI and TanDEM-X data - Phase II" and co-I in the GEDI ST project "Understanding post-fire disturbance forest recovery in Mediterranean ecosystems using GEDI"
