Bio

Lindsay "Bar" Barbieri is an Assistant Research Professor at the University of Maryland and the Science-Policy Lead for the Global Land Programme. She works at the interface of land, society, and technology, supporting a diverse array of research projects, policy initiatives, and program implementation. From developing new technologies for monitoring land-atmosphere dynamics to assessing complex nutrient flows in agricultural systems to analyzing geospatial information for planning and evaluating environmental programs for the U.S Agency for International Development - Bar greatly enjoys deep and meaningful research for societal benefit. She earned her PhD in Natural Resources with a certificate in Ecological Economics at the University of Vermont as a Graduate Fellow in the Gund Institute for Environment. Prior to her graduate work, Bar was a professional circus artist and worked on a small dairy farm — completing the FIELD program for small practicing farmers at Washington State University. She received her BA at Hampshire College in 2010 by analyzing satellite images of Mars in search of geomorphological signatures of climate cycles.
