GEOG Seminar 5/11: Corene Matyas, "Radar Detection of Rain Bands in Tropical Cyclones"
Join us for our weekly seminar this Thursday, May 11 from 3:45 to 5 p.m. in River Road or via Zoom! Dr. Corene Matyas, geography professor at the University of Florida, will discuss their work on the use of radar to detect rain binds in tropical cyclones.
Dr. Matyas is a Professor of Geography at the University of Florida. They are a climatologist who uses geospatial analysis to research the rainfall patterns of hurricanes. They also teach courses in Climatology, Hurricanes, Atmospheric Teleconnections and Spatial Data Analysis. Dr. Matyas received two Teacher of the Year Awards from UF in 2009 and 2019 as well as the 2019 Excellence in Teaching Award from the Southeastern Division of the Association of American Geographers. Their talk today is about NSF funded research concerned with the use of radar to detect rain bands in landfalling tropical cyclones.
