About The Seminar
Feng's upcoming talk will explore the complex relationship between wealth, income distribution, and carbon emissions on a global scale. Acknowledging the disproportionate carbon footprints across different countries and income groups, His talk will delve into whether there is a convergence in the lifestyles and carbon footprints of the wealthy worldwide. He will also examine the impact of climate mitigation policies like carbon taxes and pricing on various household groups, addressing the potential regressive nature of such policies. Furthermore, Feng will discuss strategies to tailor fiscal policies to benefit the poor and evaluate the global transition to low-carbon power in the context of achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This presentation will highlight key research questions and potential solutions on achieving low carbon transition goals while reducing inequality and protecting vulnerable groups.
About The Speaker
Feng is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland College Park. His research focuses on sustainability science with regards to sustainable production and consumption, sustainable supply chain, and scenarios analysis. His recent research is to develop socio-ecological accounting models to address many urgent environmental policy issues, such as distributional effects of environmental policies across regions and income groups, carbon tax revenue recycling and social protection, social and environmental inequality, low-carbon transition, and Sustainable Development Goals. He is lead/co-author of more than 100 journal articles and many of them are published in the top tier journals of his discipline, including more than 30 publications in Nature, Science, and Cell Press journals and PNAS. Feng is currently the Vice-President of the International Input-Output Association (IIOA) and Vice-Secretary of the International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE). He contributed to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report. He serves as Editor of the Ecological Economics, Associate Editor of the Science of the Total Environment, and subject editor for Sustainable Production and Consumption. He was named to the 2021, 2022, and 2023 Highly Cited Researchers from Clarivate.
