GEOG Seminar 4/21: GeoAI: Integrating Geospatial Data and AI for Social Good, Dr. Yingjie Hu
Join us for our weekly seminar! Dr. Yingjie Hu of the Department of Geography at the University at Buffalo will be presenting on the integration of geospatial data and AI for social good. More details below:
Speaker
Yingjie Hu is an assistant professor in the Department of Geography at the University at Buffalo and an affiliated professor of the UB AI and Data Science Institute. His major research area is in GIScience and more specifically in using GeoAI techniques to understand geographic phenomena and address some of the challenging problems facing our society. He is the author of over 50 peer-reviewed articles in international journals and conferences. His research has been funded by agencies such as NSF, NASA, Microsoft AI for Earth, and SUNY Research Foundation.
Abstract
The fast advancements of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques and the availability of many different types of geospatial data offer new approaches for answering research questions and addressing some of the most challenging problems facing our society. In this presentation, I will share three studies that integrated geospatial data and AI for social good. These studies focus on enhancing spatial data infrastructures, facilitating disaster response efforts, and identifying hidden public health issues respectively. By using AI techniques to examine these important issues, we can also improve our understanding of the advantages and limitations of existing AI methods, which can help inform new methodological developments.
