Discussion Platform: Machine Learning for Land Use Management and Sustainability

Researchers and students are invited to the next session of the Discussion Platform: Science for Recovery and Sustainability.

The event will feature Associate Research Professor Nataliia Kussul from the Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland on Tuesday, March 13, at 9 a.m. EST [4 p.m. GMT+2]. on Zoom. Also a professor at NTUU "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute," Kussul is an expert in artificial intelligence, satellite monitoring, and big geospatial data. She will present on "Machine Learning for Land Use Management and Sustainability."

Kussul, has worked extensively with NASA, GEO, the World Bank and the United Nations. Her talk will cover the integration of machine learning and deep learning into land use management, focusing on Earth System Digital Twins—advanced models that analyze natural and human-driven land use changes. She will also introduce the Ukrainian-Swiss Land Use Change Digital Twin project and discuss opportunities for international collaboration in Earth Intelligence.

This session is designed for researchers, professionals in ecological and agricultural fields, government agencies and students interested in satellite technology and data-driven decision-making for sustainability.

The Discussion Platform: Science for Recovery and Sustainability is co-organized by the University of Maryland, NTUU "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute," and Ukraine’s Space Research Institute NASU, with support from NASA, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
