GEOG Seminar Series: Dr. Eric Sanderson of the Wildlife Conservation Society

Please join us on Thursday, April 14th, to hear Dr. Eric Sanderson, Senior Conservation Ecologist at the Wildlife Conservation Society in New York, give a talk entitled, "From Mannahatta to Visionmaker: Exploring the geography of urban sustainability in New York City." The seminar will take place at 3:30 pm in room 1124 LeFrak Hall.

Dr. Sanderson is a best‐selling author, an ecosystem and landscape ecologist and a conservation innovator. He has published two books, Mannahatta: A Natural History of New York City (2009), and Terra Nova: The New World After Oil, Cars, and Suburbs (2013). Additionally, he has edited three contributed volumes and authored numerous peer‐reviewed scientific articles related to conservation. Sanderson is the co‐inventor of Visionmaker.nyc: a free, Internet‐based, ecological democracy tool for the public to imagine and share alternatives for New York City neighborhoods. His work has been featured in the New York Times, National Geographic, NPR, The New Yorker, Der Spiegel, El Pais, the CBC, BBC and other media outlets, and he teaches at New York University and Columbia University. Sanderson holds a Ph.D. in ecosystem and landscape ecology (1998) and a Bachelors in

Arts and Science in Biochemistry and English literature (1989), both from the University of California at Davis.
