Every year, Clarivate creates a list of influential researchers from around the world. These researchers have been the most frequently cited in their fields in the past decade, producing multiple papers ranking the top 1% by citations for field and year in the Web of Science. In 2022, only 0.1% of the world’s researchers received this recognition. Those on the list span a variety of research fields and disciplines, contributing to innovations in science, social science and citation analysis. 

University-wide, 24 researchers were recognized with primary affiliation of the University of Maryland, College Park, including four from the Department of Geographical Sciences. In addition, three former adjunct professors in the department were also recognized. These researchers are listed below, along with their award category:
