ForestSAT 2018 International Conference co-hosted by University of Maryland Department of Geographical Sciences
We are pleased to announce the eighth edition of the ForestSAT 2018 conference hosted by the University of Maryland and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center at the newly completed Hotel at the University of Maryland, just minutes from Washington DC. ForestSAT has become the pre-eminent conference on the application of spatial analysis and remote sensing technologies for forest monitoring, modeling and description. Previous conferences have been held in Chile (2016), Italy (2014), USA (2012), Spain (2010), France (2007), Sweden (2005), and Scotland (2002). ForestSAT 2018 continues this long tradition of bringing together international scientists, stake holders, and policy makers from research organizations, universities, public agencies, NGOs and the private sector and marks the return of the conference to North America.
The Association for Forest Spatial Analysis Technologies (ForestSAT), a non-profit professional organization, strives to promote cooperation among research organizations, universities, government agencies, and the private sector and foster a science-based understanding of how spatial analysis technologies can describe and monitor forested ecosystems. Facilitating the biennial ForestSAT conference is one of our main activities.
The University of Maryland is the state’s flagship university and one of the nation’s preeminent public research universities. A global leader in research, entrepreneurship and innovation, the university is home to more than 37,000 students, 9,000 faculty and staff, and 250 academic programs. Its faculty includes three Nobel laureates, three Pulitzer Prize winners, 47 members of the national academies and scores of Fulbright scholars.
The 2018 ForestSAT conference will be held from October 2 - 5, 2018 at The Hotel in College Park, MD. The Hotel at the University of Maryland, adjacent to the University of Maryland campus, is the area’s primary destination for green meetings including a Platinum LEED design, a partial Green Roof located next to the Penthouse Level banquet space, and a commitment to purchasing locally.
