Communications Coordinator, Food Security and Agriculture Consortium
Alona Bunning is a Faculty Specialist in the UMD Department of Geography, working as Communications Coordinator and Assistant Project Manager for the NASA-funded Food Security and Agriculture Consortium, which connects the use of satellite data to food security and other fields. Her previous experience includes research on climate-smart agriculture practices, development of sustainable nutrition security metrics, and technical editing for Michigan State University. While at the World Bank in 2013-2014, she produced a report on the impacts of climate change on agricultural production, market, and migration risk. At the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) Research Foundation, she brought together scientists from across the academic, public, non-profit, and private sectors to engage in sustainable agriculture research and prioritization.
Alona graduated with an M.P.A. in Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University in 2013. She received her B.A. in Political Science from Drew University in 2010.
