Rachel Berndtson

Lecturer and Assistant Director of Academic Programs

Rachel is a human geographer whose research focuses on the changing religious landscape of the United States, and the mechanisms through which contemporary religious groups interpret and incorporate the environment and sustainable agriculture into sacred and institutional life. Rachel is also interested in student-centered teaching and learning, and best practices for online and distance education, and how these may be applied to enhance Geographic education. Her previous positions at the National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center (SESYNC) and Department of Geographical Sciences have incorporated research, teaching, and academic management. Currently, Rachel is an Assistant Academic Director in the Department of Geographical Sciences, where her duties include graduate academic program management, undergraduate lecturing, and serving as the Director for the Undergraduate Honors Program.
